Farmers Club Expert Meet
ITANAGAR, Feb 02: National Youth Project under its farm innovation programme conducted expert meet programme for the farmers’ club of Pasighat and Maryiang area under East Siang and Upper Siang district recently.
NYP promoted 10 farmers’ clubs each in as many villages in both the districts under NABARD’s promotional and developmental programme.
Various problems faced by the farmers were discussed thoroughly besides discussion on new technology on organic farming and vegetable cultivation.
All the farmers club unanimously decided to look for market for selling their bulk produce which needs to be taken care of for the overall development of the villages and state in general.

Action committee reviews status of Yudik murder case
DAPORIJO, Feb 2: The Action Committee Aalo Incident, Dumporijo organized a meeting today at the Inspection Bunglow, Dumporijo in the presence of MLA cum Deputy Chairman (SPB), Takar Marde, representative of the District Administrarion SDO Gyati Taji, representative from the SP office Inspector RN Hazarika, CO Sadung Gyadu to discuss the status of Goto Yudik the murder case and action taken.
The committee also organized the traditional ‘Payi’ in the government quarters that had been damaged in the aftermath of the incident and decided to repair the damages so that the officers and staff who had fled the place could return and start normal life.

Apang mourns Riba’s death
Itanagar, Feb 2: Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang expressed deep shock at the death of Jikom Riba. Riba breathed his last after brief illness in a city based Hospital, Naharlagun on Friday evening.
“I am extremely shocked to learn the news of the sad demise of our beloved Ashi Jikom Riba. Ashi was popularly known as "Ashi Bokom"(Jikom) amongst our generations and he was a role model for all of us. To me he was a social thinker and reformer who worked relentlessly in his life time for the unity, integrity and solidarity for the entire people of our state. He was also a traditionalist who worked for the preservation of traditional arts and cultures of the indigenous people of the state. He was endowed with all the qualities which require to become a complete human being,” Apang said in his condolence message.
“Personally to me, he was a good friend, philosopher and guide. I had a high regard of him which will continue to remain for ever,” Apang said adding that the vacuum created by his death can never be filled.
On his own behalf and on behalf of the members of his family, the former Chief Minister conveyed heartfelt condolence to bereaved family. Apang prayed to the Almighty to give enough mental strength to bereaved family to withstand the irreparable loss and also prayed for departed soul to rest in eternal peace and heavenly abode.
Yudik murder case handed over to SIT
ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Following an order of the Govt the Aalo case (FIR no 02/13) of Aalo police station in connection with the murder of student leader Goto Yudik has been transferred to SIT for further investigation on Feb 1, according to an official release.

Governor, CM mourn death of Jikom Riba
ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Gen. (Retd) J J Singh and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki expressed shock over sudden demise of former IAS officer Jikom Riba after brief illness in a city hospital yesterday evening.
Riba had retired from government service in 1994. He was 77 and is survived by wife, four sons and a daughter.
“Riba was a distinguished administrator, who was deeply committed to the welfare of the people and the poor and underprivileged sections of society. He was an experienced and committed officer, who made important contributions towards the development of Arunachal Pradesh,” the Governor said in his condolence message.
“His life and work, the very high moral standards he lived by and his simplicity will continue to inspire civil servants in the future,” the Governor said. “May Almighty Donyi Polo rest his soul in eternal peace,” the governor said in his message and conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.
Tuki visited the residence of Late Riba at Naharlagun and paid floral tributes and respects to the mortal remains of the late senior citizen.
Interacting with the bereaved family members, Tuki said the services of Late Riba not only as a government officer but also as an active and senior citizen, who played a pivotal role in transition of the Arunachalee society, will always be remembered.
“He was a man who had no enemies till his last breath and his life is a lesson to be learnt from,” Tuki said.

Association added his contribution towards the state and its people will be fondly remembered by people in years to come. MIKONG (RUKSIN), Feb 2: The Prime Minister of India and other Congress party bigwigs are giving special attention to infrastructure development of Arunachal Pradesh, said Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering today.
Attending the inaugural function of ‘Golden Jubilee Celebration’ at Mikong village
in East Siang today, Ering said that Centre is well aware of the security issues
of the state as it is located along the vulnerable border with three countries-
Ering suggested the youths to be dedicated in their works for building the nation. He urged them to cherish an ambition to serve the nation in the future.
Talking about development in agriculture and horticulture in the area, the union minister assured to take up the issue with the union agriculture minister, who is arriving at Pasighat to inaugurate to lay foundation stone of proposed Agriculture College in the next month. Responding to a memorandum submitted by the golden jubilee celebration committee, he announced Rs 5 lakh for development of Middle School playground and another Rs 5 lakh for flood control measures at Dekam Nolla at Ledum. Assuring early release of the funds, the minister instructed the department concerned to complete these works before the month of April next.
Earlier, the union minister inaugurated the Monumental Pillar at Dere compound and the newly constructed Girl’s hostel of Govt Middle School at Mikong.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Bosiram Siram said that Mikong is epicenter of the district and bestowed with natural bounties. The sustainable income sources with the natural resources should be preserved for the use of next generations.
Stressing on the need of formal education, the education minister urged the student community to be sincere and dedicated in their study for a bright future. He also urged the Gaon Burahs to learn reading and writing to carry out their roles and responsibilities smoothly.
Siram, in course of speech, said that his government is working for the welfare of the school teachers in the state. Our government has increased salary of the teachers and urged them to reciprocate by discharging their duty.
Local MLA Tangor Tapak, in his address recalled his developmental contributions in the area while senior citizen Obi Jerang briefed the historical background of Mikong village.
The villagers of Mikong village had migrated from present Kebang Village in Pangin circle of the district. The people with pugnacious character underwent thorough expedition and opened a route to the isthmus gateway of the Miku Dinggo. They later landed down and settled at “Miku Kumting”. After they had sojourned some decades there, again moved to western direction and settled their habitat at Kemi village and “Atang Kumting”. The villagers subsequently renamed the village as Mikong. The village was shifted to different locations in the wake of natural calamities and finally settled at present location in 1963.

Society demands enquiry into Sikkin Kro mini hydel project implementation

DAPORIJO, Feb 2: Though the construction of Sikkin Kro Mini Hydro Power Project at Bui village sanctioned four years ago has been officially completed, in reality, the project is not yet completed, claimed Bui Youth Welfare Society (BYWS).
According to BYWS, the department concerned has already surveyed the project and verified the work. Further, the sanctioned amount has also been drawn by the contractor under taking the project.
The materials supposed to use for this project are lying abandoned at the spot and other works like channel and pipe are in deteriorating condition. This project was supposed to supply electricity in whole Gusar circle but there is still no electricity even at Segi headquarters of Gusar circle, the society claimed.
Meanwhile, it appealed to the higher authority of hydro power department of govt.of Arunachal Pradesh to inquire into the actual position of this project work and initiate legal action against all those erring officers for their negligence towards this project by simply verifying the work without maintaining proper guidelines.
ALSU flays Govt on Tongam attack case
ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) has vehemently criticized the state Govt, particularly the home department for keeping mum over the Tongam Rina attack case.
Why the state Govt is still maintaining silence on the issue even after 202 days of the gruesome attack on Tongam Rina, associate editor of this daily, the ALSU questioned. The state has failed to fulfill the demands of the civil societies as well as the media fraternity on Tongam attack case so far, the Union said adding the Govt has kept the people in confusing state regarding handing over of media attack case to CBI.
While referring to the tragic Nirjuli fire accident where a mother and her two children lost their lives, dead of a young boy at Papu Nallah, Naharlagun, attack on a law student Haku Tatak in recent past and Yudik murder case at Aalo, ALSU president Tadar Tarish rued that culprits involved in these heinous crimes are still at large. The civil societies in the state are still waiting for justice and ‘rule of law’, the Union added.
The Union further demanded appointment of independent home minister to tackle deteriorating law and order situation saying that the present parliamentary secretary home has failed to discharge his duty up to the mark in absence of an independent home minister.
ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Bori Society living in Capital Complex, Itanagar celebrated Donggin Festival here today. The festival is celebrated every year for the bumper crops, good health and blessing of offspring and to bring peace within mankind.
Speaking on the occasion, Marne Garu a senior member of the society briefed about the mythology of the Donggin Festival and exhorted the younger generation to promote and preserve the rich culture, heritage and ideology of the society.
He also highlighted the importance and value of culture and appealed to the people not to get confused between cultural and religion. “Culture is a kind of habitual practice of particular community that expose its origin and identity but religion is a belief and faith without any boundaries, he said and appealed to the communities with different religion to participate in their own festival without any religion interference to promote their culture and identity.
He encouraged the younger generation to study hard and become good citizen of the future.
Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang also advising the society to preserve their rich cultural tradition and festival said that “Eating together does not matter but getting together and showing unity and cooperation is most important for us, we should participate our festival with full vigour and zeal.”

DAPORIJO, Feb 02: A woman, who claimed she was from Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended by Army from Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district and later she was deported to Assam by Daporijo police.
The woman, who claimed herself as Omiya Bibi (22), along with a child was first brought to Aalo and later handed over to Daporijo police by Army.
Though the woman claims herself to be illiterate, she was found speaking Hindi and Bengali fluently during interrogation. She also spelt out all the mobile numbers which she used to communicate and also the vehicle numbers when she was being brought to Daporijo from Taksing.
She revealed police during interrogation involvement of a local woman in the whole episode. On further investigation by police, it was revealed that she was brought to Daporijo by a local without obtaining inner line permit.
On being questioned that as to how she could manage to bring the woman into the district without inner line permit, which is a punishable offence, the local women replied that, their vehicles are not checked in the gate all the time. Taking this opportunity, she succeeded to bring the woman from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh, she told police.
Later, Daporijo police handed over her to Assam Police on the basis of information found from her interrogation that she had relatives in Assam.
The story does not end here.
Many similar incidents are happening here. Every year many migrant laborers from Assam and other states enter into Daporijo and other parts of the state without valid inner line permit. Most of these laborers are engaged in building construction and as house servant. The children are trafficked for working in garage and car washing.
Child and Women trafficking is alarmingly high in the area. People from Assam with help of some unknown local people are reportedly operating child and women trafficking. They send the trafficked children and women to different villages for which they get money in advance. These children and women are brought by giving false assurance of providing better education, food and other facility. Many women have also fell victim of forceful marriage to older people and disable persons.
Sometimes these women are deserted and left abandoned when they oppose to marry older or disable person according to their master’s wish. Many times, young girls ran away from their master’s houses to get relief from the atrocities and other domestics violence meted out to them and go missing.
Very recently, a young girl from outside the state was roaming in Daporijo township area in abnormal condition. Numerous missing and kidnapping reports have been lodged in Daporijo police station since last couple of years.
Such antisocial acts are not only confined to Daporijo but also practiced in other places of Arunachal Pradesh. Is the govt. unaware of the crime?
Govt. should take necessary legal action against those persons, who involved in such crimes. Human trafficking cell of Arunachal Pradesh must act promptly to stop the crime.
Illegal migrants from other states without having valid inner line permit should be checked thoroughly in every check gate. The public should also be aware of such act discourage it and help govt. in preventing atrocities against women and child.
